Five stages of supply chain maturity have been identified. They are:

Most companies are somewhere between stages 1 and 2. In a maturity matrix, the above stages are cross-referenced against the Planning, Sourcing, Making, Delivering and Returning supply chain phases. Many companies have multiple degrees across the phases.
